Since 2017, I have witnessed eight outstanding students receive this prestigious award, and like all faculty, I deeply appreciate the recognition and opportunities it provides. The Baxter Student Ambassador Program has become a hallmark of excellence, showcasing top-tier student talent from within our tourism programs. Through the rigorous nomination process, students demonstrate their exceptional skills by tackling real-world challenges with professionalism and creativity. Their presentations are truly inspiring, reflecting their passion for the industry. Without a doubt, BSAP is a powerful platform for nurturing, showcasing, and elevating the next generation of tourism professionals.

Supporting travel students right now is crucial, for 2 reasons: first, the hospitality and tourism industry is in need of  staff and second, of course we always want to support our students when they are readying themselves for industry and make sure they are met with positive influences and experiences during the transition into their careers.

Our students have participated in the BSAP for 5 years and it has provided them with some great mentorship opportunities in the industry! We are always happy to be a part of it and open up opportunities for our students!

Why do you think supporting travel and tourism students is important right now?

I think investing in the education and development of students pursuing careers in the Tourism & Travel industry is essential to ensure a sustainable and successful future for the industry. We need passionate people who love the industry as the tourism industry is a vital part of our local, national, and global economy.

By supporting students, we are not only providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed outside of an educational setting but also contributing to the recovery of the tourism industry as a whole. These students are the future of the tourism and travel sector, and by providing them with the support they need, we can ensure that the industry continues to thrive and bring memorable experiences to travellers worldwide.

What is the impact BSAP is having on students and the industry as a whole?

The Baxter Student Ambassador Program (BSAP) is having an impact on both students pursuing careers in travel and tourism and the industry as a whole. The program provides students with access to industry leaders, networking opportunities and the opportunity to gain practical experience with real-world parameters (they must create content and present to industry personnel on a deadline); all which help bridge the gap between education and career.

As Algonquin has been part of BSAP for years, we have seen BSAP winners gain valuable skills and knowledge, develop their confidence and professionalism, and establish relationships with mentors and peers. As the BSAP winners transition into their careers, they are equipped with the expertise and passion needed to make a positive impact on the industry.

Through partnerships with various organizations in the tourism industry, BSAP is elevating the status of the travel and tourism industry and highlighting it as an exciting and fulfilling career path. By creating a platform for tourism companies to support students, BSAP is showcasing the diverse career opportunities available in the industry, which attracts and nurtures a new generation of talented professionals.

Overall, I believe BSAP is contributing to the growth and success of the travel and tourism industry by creating a pipeline of talented and motivated professionals who are committed to its long-term success.
