The 29th edition of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) was held in late November in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference’s first ever Tourism Day proved fruitful, with 52 countries signing the Declaration for Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism.

Tourism Day had over 700 delegates including global Ministers of Tourism and Environment, The World Travel and Tourism Council, the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, the International Transport Forum, and the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

Discussions centered around strategies to address the tourism sector’s significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, including carbon measurement, decarbonization and regenerative practices.

Also discussed was the need for global collaboration and innovation in order to develop adaptation strategies.
