The federal government has added 6,000 spots for youth seeking jobs this summer by expanding the capacity of the Canada Summer Jobs program, which provides wage subsidies to businesses hiring youth aged 15-30 for summer employment.
The move increases the available opportunities to 76,000 across the country, providing some relief as the unemployment rate for people aged 15-24 reached 14.2% in May.
This is good news for the tourism industry, which continues to be in need of workforce revitalization and employee retention.
