Students Tackle Real-World Tourism HR Challenges at Annual Case Competition
Students from Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Guelph, and Université du Québec à Montréal/Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec recently competed in the annual Hospitality and Tourism Case Competition hosted by TMU’s Hospitality and Tourism Students’ Society.
This year’s tourism case challenged students to develop a response and recovery training module for Adventure Canada expedition leaders navigating high-pressure scenarios involving guest safety, crisis response, and respectful engagement with Indigenous communities.
The competition highlighted key tourism HR themes including emotional regulation, cross-cultural communication, leadership under pressure, and frontline training design.
TMU students Allie Bell, Libby Worden, and Emel Balaban won the Tourism Stream, while UQAM/ITHQ’s Team Capella took top honours in the Hospitality Stream.
